About

History

Chindwin College, established in 2007 as a higher education business of Soe San Boarding School, is the earliest private college in Myanmar. Chindwin was founded with an ambition to offer an alternative pathway/a second chance to students who could not get into technical universities due to their matriculation grades. With this ambition, Chindwin began by offering Pearson BTEC HND qualifications in Engineering from Pearson UK (then Edexcel UK). The curriculum emphasizes student-centered learning with a variety of classroom activities and doing individual/group assignments. BTEC HND leads into the final year of UK degree programs and 3rd year of many global universities.

In 2016, Chindwin collaborated with PSB Academy Singapore to partner with the University of Portsmouth UK to offer Bachelor’s Degree Programs in Engineering and Business Management. As of 2019, Chindwin has four campuses across Yangon, Mandalay, and Taunggyi, with a student population of approximately 1000 students.

Chindwin is currently in transition to becoming a private university following its approval for investment in higher education by the Myanmar Investment Commission. Chindwin College will rebrand itself as Chindwin Technological University (CTU). To date, CTU is actively involved in preparatory work for its readiness to operate as a private university under the regulatory framework of MOE.

Message from the president

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all the aspiring students who want to pursue globally recognized quality education. To usher in the inauguration of Chindwin College, beginning with the School of Engineering, I would like to share with you my thoughts, plans, hopes and expectations for our future.

During the past 10 years, I have been involved in the running of the Soe San Boarding School with a twenty-year successful history. I have seen and influenced to various degrees how it works, moves and evolves. This educational management experience has given me the privilege of a higher stage upon which to think, plan, visualize, dream and execute for Chindwin College.

I believe that I have come to understand more deeply of what motivates and engages faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends, and how to help move this dynamic and more institutional entity forward.

Globalization is making the interaction between Myanmar
and overseas a two-way street. In a more borderless world, the changing job market is dramatically affecting the way companies employ and recruit – from around the world. These unprecedented changes engender great challenges but also precious opportunities for Myanmars. But, education and training paradigms must shift, for instance, to produce the new global engineer with mbidextrous, analytical and creative skills. Chindwin College must, therefore, help its students prepare for and to take advantage of the opportunities that will arise, both within and outside Myanmar, regionally and globally.

Chindwin College’s vision is to be a multidisciplinary college excelling in delivering globally recognized higher vocational and pre-university programme which are internationally certified such as the BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, HND in Mechanical Engineering, and HND in Business Management.

We will strive to provide a unique education (learner-centered, technology-enhanced, enriched with learning for personal effectiveness and global immersion) in Myanmar for our students, and graduate them complete with progression to universities abroad or career placement.

Mr. Tin Latt
President
